The 10 real records of the Meloni government, all anti-proletarian, anti-environmental, anti-woman

Yesterday [September, 6] in Bari, in a self-celebratory ceremony [but not triumphant, 3,500 in attendance, not the expected 10,000, as one of our informants tells us, comforted by the drones’ response], Meloni essentially boasted of just one record: the longevity of her government.

But it’s as if a soccer striker were celebrating wildly after scoring a goal in an empty net.

In fact, in our memory, never has a right-wing Italian government been so devoid of parliamentary and extra-parliamentary opposition from the established unions and the so-called center-left opposition. In recent years, the only struggles that have truly given it a hard time have been the solidarity movement with the Palestinian resistance, some local movements (with the limitation of being somewhat territorialist, however), and some workers’ and unemployed struggles (in Naples) driven by grassroots unions in logistics, railways, and transportation, almost always numerically limited.

Her real records, then, are others. And they are all anti-proletarian, anti-ecological, and anti-woman — she who boasts of being a woman and a mother [even to the grotesque, namely her live phone call from her daughter in the ceremony — “Sorry, I have to answer, it’s my daughter”…].

1. Record number of workplace deaths

In the last 25 years, there hasn’t been a year as tragic for workplace deaths as 2025, with a veritable massacre of immigrant workers, truck drivers, tractor drivers, and construction workers. And even workers over 60 and 70! Meloni boasts of increased employment rates: but if pensions and wages are, as in millions of cases, insufficient to live on, then people are forced to work overtime and look for work more than before, any job whatsoever. And people are dying more at work. That is, for capital and stock market profits!

For precise (or close to accurate) numbers, you can consult the Bologna Observatory on Deaths at Work, edited by Carlo Soricelli – even if we sometimes criticize some of this comrade’s serious pro-institutional slips, his work is very useful.

2. Loss of Purchasing Power of Wages

Wages have been losing purchasing power in Italy since at least 1990 – and the trend has continued with the Meloni government, so that Italian wages are now at the bottom of the European wage ladder. Bravo! It’s understandable why Italian capitalists they cheered her at the Confindustria meeting. (1, 2, 3)

3. The lowest rate of children per woman since 1945

In 2024-2025, the rate of children per woman reached its lowest level since 1945: 1.18 – 335,000 girls and boys were born in 2025, the lowest level since the postwar period. Many factors have generated this long-term trend, but among them are job insecurity, the reduction of welfare benefits, and the cost of living – all areas in which the Meloni government has continued, following the lead of previous governments, in cutting social spending.

Among its undisputed merits, we should also add the support given to the hideous “pro-life” associations around the unforgettable Minister Roccella (4).

4. Lowest public healthcare spending

Under the Meloni government, public healthcare spending (despite growing in absolute terms) will fall —as a percentage of GDP— to below 6% in 2028, confirming its position as the lowest among the G7 countries. During the Meloni government, private healthcare spending has grown exponentially, and today at least 5.8 million people forgo treatment due to lack of means.

As the GIMBE Foundation claims (5), we are now experiencing the “slow death throes of the national health service” (over the last three years, the Meloni government has cut €13.1 billion), paving the way for private healthcare. The government “keeps the accounts in order” and “reduces the spread” at the expense of the health of all the workers. Bravo Giorgetti, worthy student and friend of a certain Mario Draghi.

5. A record 7 security decrees! (and the Guarantee Commission added to that…)

A total of 7 security decrees to introduce a slew of new crimes and unprecedented penalty increases to prevent and crush class struggle and social, anti-militarist, and environmental movements, with special attention, as always, to immigrants. Enough said, so we’ll just refer you to other texts.

And if the seven security decrees weren’t enough, the Commission for the Guarantee of Strikes (actually: against strikes) has seen fit to extend the strike-suppression provisions contained in Law 146/1990 to logistics.

Police State for an Era of War ! (6, 7, 8, 9)

6. The First Organic Law in Europe to “Promote Zionism Everywhere”

State repression against the Palestine movement has been widespread and harsh throughout Europe. Just look at the fate reserved for Palestine Action activists in the United Kingdom or the current practice in West Germany of arbitrarily stopping activists from mass demonstrations if the slogans they are shouting appear “anti-Semitic” simply because they are decidedly anti-Zionist.

But even in this case, the Meloni government is trying to achieve a record: being the first European government to pass a special law that promotes Zionism everywhere. The road is already paved. Advanced. The Senate approved the Romeo Bill. For Meloni and Mattarella’s Italy, it wasn’t enough to be the third largest supplier of weapons for the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza; it also sought primacy in pro-Zionist legislation to better legitimize the genocide ex post. 7. Record-breaking war spending

The Meloni-Crosetto government made a solemn commitment to increase overall war spending to 5% of GDP, and just a few days ago decided to borrow another €14.9 billion from the EU’s Safe Fund. Meanwhile, the latest budget alone has cut social spending by €7.5 billion (11).

8. The militarization of schools

On this matter, the documentation compiled by Teachers for Gaza, the Observatory against the militarization of schools, and Antonio Mazzeo’s blog is damning. But Valditara —the Minister of Education and Merit— wanted to go further by making the conduct mark, that is, being disciplined in order and following conformist thought, a central mark in courses, enough in itself to “deserve” a failure.

9. The Record-Breaking Repression of Environmental Activists

It goes without saying that in Meloni’s dull, self-congratulatory speech, any mention of the extreme urgency of measures in this area, a genuine priority, has completely disappeared—in the midst of the hottest summer ever.

On the other hand, the government can boast the greatest historical repression against environmental activists: 166 expulsion orders and 800 reports against XR activists for unannounced demonstrations, defacement of public buildings, invasion of buildings, desecration of tombs, lighting smoke bombs… 400 expulsion orders, dozens of criminal decrees for violating expulsion orders, 95 ongoing trials for Ultima Generation activists…

10. The Record-Breaking Amnesty for Tax Evaders

Another undisputed record, and extremely difficult to beat: In its four years in office, the Meloni government has enacted more than 20 amnesties and debt relief measures. Given the enormous scope of these measures, a certain number of proletarians and wage earners may have benefited, but the vast majority, especially for the larger sums, have benefited the mucilage of small (and sometimes not-so-small) hoarders who in Italy tear the skin off their wage earners or, at best, legally enrich themselves from them.

These are the real records of the Meloni government.

As we said from day one: the Meloni government is the government of the bosses.
