Non si può dare per scontato che il cessate il fuoco a Gaza e in Cisgiordania entrerà davvero in vigore domenica prossima alle ore 12.15, perché non è da escludere un sabotaggio sionista dell’ultimo momento. Ancora meno scontato è che l’accordo regga. Vedremo. Per ora due sole cose sono certe: 1) si festeggia a Gaza (nonostante la strage continui), non si festeggia in Israele (salvo i parenti dei prigionieri); 2) questa tregua non è l’anticamera della pace, e – tanto meno – di una pace giusta.
Si festeggia a Gaza, a Nablus, a Jenin, a Betlemme, a Hebron, a Ramallah, a Silwan, e in molte altre città dei paesi arabi e islamici fino a Londra ed ancor più lontano. E a ragione, perché era la resistenza palestinese a chiedere da tempo un cessate il fuoco, lo scambio di prigionieri, il ritorno dei profughi nella zona nord della striscia di Gaza, lo sblocco degli aiuti umanitari, il ritiro delle truppe sioniste da Gaza (che non sarà, tuttavia, quello desiderato).
Non è retorica attribuire questo risultato alla “eroica fermezza e perseveranza del popolo palestinese”, al coraggio e alla “forte volontà della resistenza”. “Il diluvio rende gloria”, “Il popolo di Gaza ha onorato il mondo [degli oppressi], ora lasciamo che il mondo [degli oppressi] onori noi”, si grida per le contrade e le strade distrutte di Gaza. Chi può essere così vile da disconoscere che le cose stanno effettivamente in questo modo?
Né le stragi, né la carestia, né il freddo, né le malattie, né i brutali abusi degli invasori hanno piegato la determinazione dei palestinesi di Gaza. Il fatto è questo: con la sua strapotenza militare Israele non è in grado di cancellare la resistenza, anzi la alimenta creando nuove reclute. “Mai prima nella storia del conflitto i combattenti e i civili palestinesi hanno mostrato un tale livello di resistenza”, ha sottolineato David Hearst su Middle East Eye. A suo dire, questo potrebbe essere un punto di svolta storico nella lotta anticoloniale del popolo palestinese perché in 15 mesi di guerra sterminista il suo antagonista, lo stato di Israele, ha subito una “perdita incalcolabile” di credito politico e di immagine non solo nel Sud globale, anche nei paesi occidentali.
In Israele, in effetti, si mastica amaro. Per Israele, il cessate il fuoco per avere indietro i prigionieri del 7 ottobre è uno smacco in quanto non è stato capace di liberarli da sé come aveva promesso. Prova a negarlo su Il Foglio un esponente di spicco del giornalismo sionista, Giuliano Ferrara, sostenendo che “Netanyahu ha vinto la seconda guerra mondiale, che non aveva mai combattuto per la propria esistenza così a lungo e su tanti fronti, (…) pagando costi politici altissimi in particolare sulla linea dell’ideologia umanitaria che ha assediato, con una esplosione di antisionismo e di antisemitismo anche in occidente, la devastante offensiva di Tsahal”. Ma è lui stesso a dissolvere questa rivendicazione di vittoria ammettendo che con la sua devastante offensiva Israele ha solo “comprato tempo”. E tale è il suo “destino”. Quasi che l’unica chance storica di questa macchina di occupazione e distruzione colonialista sia riuscire a durare ancora un po’, sebbene la circondino da tutti i lati popolazioni ostili.
Del resto, è lo stesso giornale a ipotizzare – sulla scia delle posizioni di Smotrich – “una fase due per sradicare Hamas”. Era questo l’obiettivo primario dichiarato dell’azione genocida, o no? Quindi: obiettivo fallito. In un’intervista-verità a Matti Friedman emerge il secondo aspetto del fallimento: non essere riusciti a liberare gli “ostaggi” manu militari. A seguire, il terzo: 15 mesi di guerra hanno stancato l’esercito israeliano, a cui ora serve la tregua: “siamo un esercito di riservisti, sono esausti, hanno famiglia e lavori. Israele può fare una guerra per un tempo limitato”. Per quanto si tenti di oscurarle, le perdite di soldati e ufficiali da parte di Israele sono ingenti, da ultimo nella durissima battaglia di Beit Hanoun. E l’economia è mezzo dissestata dal prolungato ed estremo sforzo bellico. Al passivo ci sono anche “i costi politici altissimi”. Con le franche parole di Matti Friedman: “Israele vive il suo momento più buio. Il credito morale che aveva dopo la Shoah di fatto è scomparso”.
Perfino in Occidente la frottola di Israele solo paese civile in un’oceano di incivili, è difficilmente presentabile. Sicché pure i più incalliti protettori dello stato sionista, a cominciare dai boia di Washington, debbono recitare la parte di quelli che hanno mediato cercando la “pace” lasciando volta a volta alla ultradestra sionista o a Netanyahu il ruolo di irriducibili assertori della guerra ad oltranza – ma badando sempre bene a non delegittimarli.
Per questi motivi la narrazione dei mass media occidentali è centrata sul “grande successo” del duo Biden-Trump presentati al pubblico come i veri artefici di questa tregua da amanti della pace quali sarebbero, laddove sono stati i primi sostenitori del boia Netanyahu, i difensori del diritto al genocidio di Israele in tutte le sedi diplomatiche, mentre il Pentagono è stato il retroterra decisivo delle operazioni dell’esercito sionista, a cui si è più volte affiancato. Questa recita “pacifista”, però, ha il fiato corto, se è vero che Trump ha promesso a Netanyahu tutto il sostegno militare che richiederà, e ha subito messo in chiaro che farà di tutto per coinvolgere altri stati della regione, anzitutto l’Arabia saudita, nei cosiddetti “accordi di Abramo”, concepiti come la tomba in cui seppellire definitivamente la “questione palestinese”. A sua volta l’Unione europea si è affiancata in tutto e per tutto alla Casa Bianca, sì che ora i suoi singoli paesi, con l’Italia in testa al fianco della Polonia, sono impegnati a garantire a Netanyahu la completa libertà di circolazione – chi se ne frega della sentenza della Corte di giustizia dell’Aja! Il diritto internazionale siamo noi, che abbiamo la forza di sterminare i nostri nemici.
No, questa tregua non è assolutamente la fine della guerra coloniale sionista-occidentale in Medio Oriente tesa a spazzare via dalla loro terra, per sempre, i palestinesi. Netanyahu lo ha appena ribadito. E l’asse Stati Uniti-Europa-Israele, questa volta, non finge neppure di ritirare fuori dal cassetto la promessa, da sempre vuota, di uno “stato palestinese” accanto ad Israele. Al contrario già ci si domanda cosa c’è dietro l’accettazione della tregua da parte di Netanyahu, quali patti segreti con Washington. Circolano varie ipotesi che è prematuro commentare. In ogni caso si può dare per certo che la guerra della macchina di morte israeliana-occidentale al popolo palestinese e alla resistenza palestinese continuerà. E riprenderà forse prima del previsto.
Prevedibilmente riprenderà anche l’attacco israeliano-occidentale a chi nel Medio Oriente ha dato un contributo alla causa palestinese: gli Hezbollah in Libano, Ansar Allah nello Yemen, Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba in Iraq. Il fatto che tali movimenti siano scesi in campo fattivamente contro lo Stato sionista, tuttavia, non cancella le loro responsabilità storiche, prima fra tutte la cooperazione di Hezbollah con il regime di Assad nella sanguinosissima repressione della sollevazione popolare del 2011. La ristrutturazione degli assetti di potere in Libano e in Siria permetterà di analizzare meglio il riposizionamento di tali forze. Ma già adesso possiamo affermare che se è vero, com’è vero, che la causa palestinese è la causa di tutti gli oppressi; se è vero che essa potrà vincere solo nel quadro di una rivoluzione d’area capace di aggredire e smantellare, con lo Stato sionista, l’ordine neocoloniale del Medio Oriente, facendo avanzare per tale via la lotta anticapitalistica a scala mondiale; allora la strategia rivoluzionaria per la vittoria di tale rivoluzione deve mettere radicalmente in discussione tutte le “geometrie variabili” a cui il dominio imperialista ci ha abituati. Sostenere l’autodeterminazione palestinese, ma cooperare con i carnefici della sollevazione popolare siriana, non può essere la strada per la vittoria delle masse povere in Palestina o in altre regioni. La storia di ribellione e di lotta del popolo curdo, per non fare che un esempio, è particolarmente ricca di esempi che dimostrano il carattere esiziale di simili alleanze per la causa della rivoluzione democratica e della lotta agli imperialismi che si contendono il Medio Oriente.
Tornando alla tregua in Palestina, essa è un vitale momento di respiro per la popolazione di Gaza, un’occasione per le formazioni della resistenza di riorganizzare le proprie forze, anche grazie ai prigionieri che saranno rilasciati. Ma bisogna tenere presente che la situazione abitativa, sanitaria, dell’istruzione, ecologica a Gaza è catastrofica. E tale resterà per molti anni. Israele vi ha seminato malattie e atroci sofferenze – se tutto finisse qui – per almeno un’intera generazione. Secondo le stime dell’Onu (ferme però ad ottobre) ci sono a Gaza 42 milioni di tonnellate di macerie, e saranno necessari 14 anni per rimuoverle, con costi stratosferici. Sono stati cancellati quasi 200.000 edifici, sotto i quali ci sono migliaia o decine di migliaia di cadaveri e quantità di bombe inesplose. Le strade sono a pezzi, in molti punti cancellate, vanno ricreate. Così le fognature e le condutture delle acque. La sistematica distruzione degli alberi e delle colture praticata dall’esercito sionista è una ferita profonda che non può essere risanata in breve. Altrettanto lo sono le decine di migliaia di bambini orfani, di storpi, di malati cronici, di persone di ogni età devastate nella psiche per gli orrori e le brutalità che hanno dovuto fronteggiare. Ammesso, e assolutamente non concesso, che da domenica cessino del tutto i bombardamenti, per rendere di nuovo Gaza un minimo vivibile, sarebbe necessario uno sforzo titanico.
Israele e l’asse dello sterminismo democratico Usa-UE non possono cantare vittoria, è vero. Ma hanno inferto un colpo terribile all’esistenza e alla riproduzione sociale di questa popolazione. Ulteriori ne stanno preparando. E da avvoltoi mai sazi di carne umana e di guadagni quali sono, si apprestano a controllare, presiedere e lucrare su quel tanto di ricostruzione di Gaza che dovesse realmente esserci. Dobbiamo saperlo, come devono saperlo tutte/i coloro che in Italia e nel mondo hanno sostenuto l’epica battaglia dei guerriglieri e dei civili palestinesi di Gaza e di Cisgiordania. E renderci conto che abbiamo fatto troppo poco in Italia e in Occidente per impedire questo scempio. Per colpire gli interessi materiali e culturali sionisti in Italia e nel mondo. Per coinvolgere le masse lavoratrici nel sostegno alla causa palestinese, facendogli comprendere che è la causa di tutti gli sfruttati e gli oppressi del mondo. Abbiamo fatto troppo poco per intralciare la politica bellicista del governo Meloni. Abbiamo fatto troppo poco per delegittimare e demolire la narrazione sionista, per smontare le menzogne razziste della hasbara dominante nei mass media e nelle scuole.
Anche i militanti anti-imperialisti dei paesi arabi ed islamici sono chiamati a fare un bilancio critico del proprio apporto alla causa palestinese. Perché se è vero che dal 7 ottobre ad oggi le metropoli e un’infinità di città del Medio Oriente si sono riempite di folle sterminate di dimostranti, è innegabile che in Egitto sia stato sostanzialmente rispettato il codardo diktat di al-Sisi di non manifestare per la Palestina. Che in Giordania ci si è fermati sulle linee invalicabili fissate dal reame infeudato agli Stati Uniti. Che in Turchia non è stato smascherato davvero il doppio gioco di Erdogan. Che in Iran si è manifestato a comando delle autorità più che a sostegno dei fratelli di classe palestinesi. E che, in generale, ci si è troppo illusi sul possibile aiuto dai concorrenti dell’Occidente, Cina e Russia, che in questi 15 mesi non hanno modificato di una virgola i propri rapporti economici, politici, diplomatici con lo stato sionista; tutto ciò che hanno saputo fare è provare ad imporre ad Hamas e alle componenti più radicali della resistenza palestinese la riconciliazione con i brutti ceffi dell’Anp.
Più di cinquant’anni fa Ghassan Kanafani, svolgendo un’analisi di classe dei nemici e degli amici della causa palestinese, identificava nella classe operaia, nei contadini e nella masse povere del mondo arabo i primi alleati di una lotta che inquadrava come una lotta rivoluzionaria di area. Aggiornata agli svolgimenti successivi, e depurata da perduranti illusioni su “stati amici” presenti anche in quella mente di grande lucidità, questa visione del carattere internazionale e di classe dello scontro tra lo stato sionista e il popolo palestinese resta più vera che mai. Di nuovo, con un’urgenza e una radicalità che supera quella dei primi anni ‘70, la causa palestinese è la causa di tutte le masse oppresse e sfruttate del mondo. Mentre la “reazione araba”, le borghesie arabe concorrono tutte al soffocamento di questa guerra di liberazione nazionale dall’enorme potenziale sociale – essendo il popolo palestinese il più proletarizzato della terra, in Palestina e nella diaspora.
Ben venga, dunque, la tregua strappata con un terribile prezzo di sangue e di dolore dalla popolazione resistente di Gaza (e della Cisgiordania). Anche per consentirci di mettere a fuoco dove il nostro apporto alla sconfitta dello stato sionista e dei suoi protettori è stato carente. E rafforzarlo.
Palestine: an armed truce. Celebration in Gaza, black moods in Israel.
It cannot be taken for granted that the ceasefire in Gaza and the West Bank will really come into force next Sunday at 12.15 p.m., because last-minute Zionist sabotage cannot be ruled out. Even less obvious is that the agreement will hold. See. For now, only two things are certain: 1) it is celebrated in Gaza (although the massacre continues), it is not celebrated in Israel (except for the relatives of the prisoners); 2) this truce is not the antechamber of peace, and – even less – of a just peace.
It is celebrated in Gaza, Nablus, Jenin, Bethlehem, Hebron, Ramallah, Silwan, and many other cities of Arab and Islamic countries as far away as London. And rightly so, because it was the Palestinian resistance that had long been calling for a ceasefire, the exchange of prisoners, the return of refugees to the northern area of the Gaza Strip, the release of humanitarian aid, the withdrawal of Zionist troops from Gaza (which would not, however, be what was desired).
It is not rhetoric to attribute this result to the “heroic steadfastness and perseverance of the Palestinian people”, to the courage and “strong will of resistance”. “The flood brings glory”, “The people of Gaza have honored the world [of the oppressed], now let the world [of the oppressed] honor us”, they shout for the destroyed lands and streets of Gaza. Who can be so cowardly as to deny that this is actually the case?
Neither the massacres, nor the famine, nor the cold, nor the diseases, nor the brutal abuses of the invaders have bent the resolve of the Palestinians in Gaza. The fact is this: with its military overwhelming power, Israel is unable to erase the resistance, on the contrary it feeds it by creating new recruits. “Never before in the history of the conflict have Palestinian fighters and civilians shown such a level of resistance,” David Hearst pointed out in Middle East Eye. According to him, this could be a historic turning point in the anti-colonial struggle of the Palestinian people because in 15 months of extermination war its antagonist, the state of Israel, has suffered an “incalculable loss” of political credit and image not only in the Global South, but also in Western countries.
In Israel, in fact, there is bitter chewing. For Israel, the ceasefire to get back the prisoners of October 7 is a setback as it has not been able to free them on its own as it had promised. A leading exponent of Italian Zionist journalism, Giuliano Ferrara, tries to deny it in Il Foglio, arguing that “Netanyahu won the Second World War, that he had never fought for his existence for so long and on so many fronts, (…) paying very high political costs, particularly along the lines of the humanitarian ideology that has besieged, with an explosion of anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism even in the West, the devastating offensive of Tsahal”. But it is he himself who dispels this claim of victory by admitting that with his devastating offensive Israel has only “bought time”. And such is his “destiny”. Almost as if the only historical chance of this colonialist machine of occupation and destruction is to be able to last a little longer, among hostile populations surrounding it on all sides.
After all, it is the same newspaper (Il Foglio) that hypothesizes – in the wake of Smotrich’s positions – “a phase two to eradicate Hamas”. Was this the primary declared objective of the genocidal action, or not? So: goal failed. In a truth-interview with Matti Friedman, the second aspect of the failure emerges: not having been able to free the “hostages” manu militari. To follow, the third: 15 months of war have tired the Israeli army, which now needs a truce: “we are an army of reservists, they are exhausted, they have families and jobs. Israel can wage a war for a limited time.” As much as they try to obscure them, Israel’s losses of soldiers and officers are enormous, most recently in the very hard battle of Beit Hanoun. And the economy is half disrupted by the prolonged and extreme war effort. On the liabilities there are also “the very high political costs”. In the frank words of Matti Friedman: “Israel is experiencing its darkest moment. The moral credit he had after the Holocaust has in fact disappeared.”
Even in the West, the canard of Israel, only a civilized country in an ocean of uncivilized people, is difficult to present today. So even the most hardened protectors of the Zionist state, starting with the executioners of Washington, must play the part of those who mediated by seeking “peace” by leaving the role of irreducible supporters of war to the bitter end to the Zionist ultra-right or Netanyahu – but always taking care not to delegitimize them.
For these reasons, the narrative of the Western mass media is centered on the “great success” of the Biden-Trump duo presented to the public as the real architects of this truce by lovers of peace who would be, where they were the first supporters of the executioner Netanyahu, the defenders of Israel’s right to genocide in all diplomatic forums, while the Pentagon was the decisive background of the operations of the Zionist army, which it has repeatedly joined. This “pacifist” recitation, however, is short of breath, if it is true that Trump promised Netanyahu all the military support he will require, and immediately made it clear that he will do everything to involve other states in the region, first and foremost Saudi Arabia, in the so-called “Abraham Accords”, conceived as the tomb in which to bury the “Palestinian question” once and for all. In turn, the European Union has joined the White House in all respects, so that now its individual countries, with Italy leading the way alongside Poland, are committed to guaranteeing Netanyahu complete freedom of movement – who cares about the ruling of the Court of Justice in The Hague! International law is us, who have the strength to exterminate our enemies.
No, this truce is by no means the end of the Zionist-Western colonial war in the Middle East aimed at wiping out the Palestinians from their land forever. Netanyahu has just reiterated this. And the United States-Europe-Israel axis, this time, does not even pretend to pull out of the drawer the promise, which has always been empty, of a “Palestinian state” alongside Israel. On the contrary, we are already wondering what is behind Netanyahu’s acceptance of the truce, what secret pacts with Washington. There are various hypotheses circulating that it is premature to comment. In any case, it can be taken for granted that the Israeli-Western war of death machine on the Palestinian people and the Palestinian resistance will continue. And it will resume perhaps sooner than expected.
Predictably, the Israeli-Western attack on those in the Middle East who have contributed to the Palestinian cause will also resume: Hezbollah in Lebanon, Ansar Allah in Yemen, Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba in Iraq. The fact that these movements have taken the field actively against the Zionist state, however, does not erase their historical responsibilities, first of all Hezbollah’s cooperation with the Assad regime in the bloody repression of the popular uprising of 2011-2012. The restructuring of the power structures in Lebanon and Syria will allow for a better analysis of the repositioning of these forces. But even now we can say that if it is true, as it is, that the Palestinian cause is the cause of all the oppressed; if it is true that it can only win within the framework of an area revolution capable of attacking and dismantling, with the Zionist State, the neocolonial order of the Middle East, thus advancing the anti-capitalist struggle on a world scale; then the revolutionary strategy for the victory of such a revolution must radically question all the “variable geometries” to which imperialist domination has accustomed us. Supporting Palestinian self-determination, but cooperating with the executioners of the Syrian popular uprising, cannot be the path to victory for the poor masses in Palestine or other regions. The history of rebellion and struggle of the Kurdish people, to give but one example, is particularly rich in examples that demonstrate the fatal character of such alliances for the cause of democratic revolution and the fight against the imperialisms that are contending in the Middle East.
Returning to the truce in Palestine, it is a vital moment of respite for the people of Gaza, an opportunity for the resistance formations to reorganize their forces, also thanks to the prisoners who will be released. But it must be borne in mind that the housing, health, education, and ecological situation in Gaza is catastrophic. And it will remain so for many years. Israel has sown disease and atrocious suffering there – if it all ended here – for at least an entire generation. According to UN estimates (stopped in October) there are 42 million tons of rubble in Gaza, and it will take 14 years to remove it, with stratospheric costs. Almost 200,000 buildings have been erased, under which there are thousands or tens of thousands of corpses and quantities of unexploded bombs. The streets are in pieces, in many places erased, they must be recreated. So do sewers and water pipes. The systematic destruction of trees and crops practiced by the Zionist army is a deep wound that cannot be healed in the short term. So are the tens of thousands of orphaned children, the crippled, the chronically ill, people of all ages devastated in their psyches by the horrors and brutality they have had to face. Assuming, and absolutely not granted, that from Sunday the bombing will cease completely, to make Gaza a minimum livable again, a titanic effort would be necessary.
Israel and the US-EU axis of democratic extermination cannot claim victory, it is true. But they have dealt a terrible blow to the existence and social reproduction of this population. More are being prepared. And as vultures never satisfied with human flesh and profits that they are, they are preparing to control, preside and profit from as much reconstruction of Gaza as there should really be. We must know this, as must all those in Italy and around the world who have supported the epic battle of the Palestinian guerrillas and civilians in Gaza and the West Bank. And realize that we have done too little in Italy and in the West to prevent this havoc. To strike at Zionist material and cultural interests in Italy and in the world. To involve the working masses in supporting the Palestinian cause, making them understand that it is the cause of all the exploited and oppressed of the world. We have done too little to hinder the warmongering policy of the Meloni government. We have done too little to delegitimize and demolish the Zionist narrative, to debunk the racist lies of the dominant hasbara in the mass media and in schools.
Even the anti-imperialist militants of Arab and Islamic countries are called upon to make a critical assessment of their contribution to the Palestinian cause. Because if it is true that since October 7 the metropolises and an infinite number of cities in the Middle East have been filled with endless crowds of demonstrators, it is undeniable that in Egypt al-Sisi’s cowardly diktat not to demonstrate for Palestine has been substantially respected. That in Jordan all the demonstrations stopped on the impassable lines fixed by the realm enfeoffed to the United States. That in Turkey Erdogan’s double game has not really been unmasked. That in Iran many people manifested according to the command of the authorities rather than in unconditional support of the Palestinian class brothers. And that, in general, there has been too much illusion about the possible help from the West’s competitors, China and Russia, which in these 15 months have not changed one iota their economic, political, diplomatic relations with the Zionist state; all they have been able to do is try to impose reconciliation with the ugly thugs of the PA on Hamas and the most radical components of the Palestinian resistance.
More than fifty years ago, Ghassan Kanafani, carrying out a class analysis of the enemies and friends of the Palestinian cause, identified the working class, the peasants and the poor masses of the Arab world as the first allies of a struggle that he framed as a revolutionary struggle in the area. Updated to subsequent developments, and purified of enduring illusions about “friendly states” present even in that highly lucid mind, this vision of the international and class character of the clash between the Zionist state and the Palestinian people remains as true as ever. Again, with an urgency and radicality that surpasses that of the early 1970s, the Palestinian cause is the cause of all the oppressed and exploited masses of the Middle East and the entire world. While the “Arab reaction”, the Arab bourgeoisies all contribute to the suffocation of this war of national liberation with enormous social potential – the Palestinian people being the most proletarianized on earth, in Palestine and in the diaspora.
Welcome, therefore, the truce wrested with a terrible price of blood and pain by the resistant population of Gaza (and the West Bank). Also to allow us to focus on where our contribution to the defeat of the Zionist state and its patrons has been lacking. And strengthen it.
