Le decine di migliaia di dimostranti che in tante città, da Torino a Palermo, da Napoli a Roma a Milano, da Bologna a Brescia, da Genova a Pisa, hanno gridato ieri e oggi la loro solidarietà alla Global Sumud Flotilla e alla popolazione di Gaza, bloccando porti, stazioni, autostrade, provano che la grande giornata di lotta del 22 settembre non è stata un fuoco di paglia. La legge-manganello voluta dal duo Meloni-Mattarella non può impedirci di bloccare tutto, se ne abbiamo la forza.
Altrettanto importante è che domani 3 ottobre ci sia uno sciopero generale, il primo!, indetto insieme dal sindacalismo di base al completo e dalla CGIL. Non ci sfuggono le differenze politiche abissali tra chi, come Landini, rifà la storia della tragedia in corso a Gaza a partire dal 7 ottobre, riducendo il genocidio ad una risposta “eccessiva” del governo Netanyahu, e chi, invece, condanna il secolare colonialismo sionista-occidentale come la radice unica di tutto; né ci sfugge la grande distanza che corre tra chi, come il segretario dell’USB, ci tiene a “ridare dignità al nostro paese”, e chi, come noi, è contro questo viscido nazionalismo “sociale”. Quello che conta di più è che, per la prima volta da decenni, cade la separazione tra lavoratori/lavoratrici iscritti alla CGIL e lavoratori/lavoratrici dei sindacati combattivi – una separazione innaturale, attentamente coltivata dai padroni, dai governi, e anche dalle burocrazie sindacali grandi e piccole.
Era tempo che le piazze italiane tornassero a riempirsi, all’unisono con le piazze di mezzo mondo – nella sola giornata di ieri: Buenos Aires, Berlino, Londra, Ankara, Città del Messico, Barcellona, Bruxelles! Era tempo che si tornasse ad usare l’arma vitale dello sciopero generale per ragioni di ordine politico – riguardanti cioè il presente e il futuro dell’intera classe lavoratrice italiana e internazionale!
Questo “miracolo” è merito della straordinaria resistenza del popolo della Palestina, che si è accesa come un faro per le masse sfruttate e oppresse di tutto il mondo, e le ha risvegliate alla lotta per i fratelli e le sorelle di classe palestinesi e per sé stesse. Qualunque sia l’esito immediato delle indomite Intifade palestinesi che si sono susseguite dall’8 dicembre 1987 al 7 ottobre 2023, la causa palestinese è entrata nella storia della lotta di classe internazionale.
Ma noi, qui, la difenderemo per davvero, e ne raccoglieremo per davvero l’esempio, solo se porteremo fino in fondo la lotta contro lo strangolatorio, coloniale, schiavista piano di Trump-Netanyahu, e contro il governo Meloni che lo sostiene, e sta mantenendo intatta la catena di forniture belliche e di totale complicità con lo stato sionista.
Questo infame governo partecipa in prima fila alla corsa all’economia di guerra; si è impegnato a portare al 5% del PIL la spesa bellica italiana, e per farlo dovrà tagliare brutalmente le spese sociali già abbondantemente segate dai governi di tutti i colori degli ultimi 30 anni; sta tagliando ogni vincolo allo strapotere dei padroni sui luoghi di lavoro e nei contratti di lavoro, e sta irridendo ad ogni vincolo ecologista in nome della necessità di nuove “grandi opere”; ha dichiarato guerra agli emigranti e agli immigrati; sta militarizzando le scuole, le università, le città, l’informazione; d’intesa con le destre internazionali fasciste o fascisteggianti, sta diffondendo una cultura ferocemente sessista; sta usando il “decreto sicurezza” per aggredire i picchetti operai, i cortei, le stesse forme di disobbedienza non violenta; ha al suo attivo gli ammirevoli record di morti sul lavoro e di suicidi in carcere – tante ragioni per attaccarlo frontalmente e buttarlo giù.
Ma non cadrà certo per iniziativa dell’opposizione parlamentare di centro-sinistra che addirittura si astiene sull’odg delle destre favorevole al piano Trump, e arriva a lodare il ministro della guerra Crosetto. Cadrà solo ed esclusivamente dalle piazze, se riusciremo a dare continuità a questa ripresa delle lotte e della volontà di lottare, senza delegare nulla a questa opposizione di sua maestà e ai suoi galoppini.

Bring down the Meloni government from the streets!
The tens of thousands of protesters who, in so many cities, from Turin to Palermo, from Naples to Rome to Milan, from Bologna to Brescia, from Genoa to Pisa, yesterday and today shouted their solidarity with the Global Sumud Flotilla and the people of Gaza, blocking ports, stations, and highways, prove that the great day of struggle on September 22nd was not a flash in the pan. The truncheon law pushed by the Meloni-Mattarella duo cannot prevent us from blocking everything, if we have the strength.
Equally important is that tomorrow, October 3rd, there will be a general strike—the first!—called jointly by the entire grassroots union movement and the CGIL. We are not unaware of the abysmal political differences between those, like the CGIL secretary Landini, who recount the tragedy unfolding in Gaza since October 7, reducing the genocide to an “excessive” response by the Netanyahu government, and those who instead condemn centuries-old Western-Zionist colonialism as the sole root of everything. Nor are we unaware of the vast gulf between those, like the USB secretary, who care about “restoring dignity to our country,” and those, like us, who oppose this slimy “social” nationalism. What matters most is that, for the first time in decades, the separation between workers registered with the CGIL and workers in militant unions is falling apart — an unnatural separation, carefully cultivated by employers, governments, and even union large and small bureaucracies.
It was time for the Italian squares to fill up again, in unison with those around the world — just yesterday: Buenos Aires, Berlin, London, Ankara, Mexico City, Barcelona, Brussels! It was time to return to using the vital weapon of the general strike for political reasons — that is, for the present and future of the entire Italian and international working class!
This “miracle” is thanks to the extraordinary resistance of the Palestinian people, which shone like a beacon for the exploited and oppressed masses around the world, awakening them to fight for their Palestinian class brothers and sisters and for themselves. Whatever the immediate outcome of the indomitable Palestinian Intifadas that unfolded from December 8, 1987, to October 7, 2023, the Palestinian cause has entered the history of international class struggle.
But we, here, will truly defend it, and truly follow its example, only if we fully pursue the fight against the strangling, colonial, and slave-ridden Trump-Netanyahu plan, and against the Meloni government that supports it, and is maintaining the war supply chain intact and in total complicity with the Zionist state.
This infamous government is a front-line participant in the race to create a war economy; it has pledged to raise Italian war spending to 5% of GDP, and to do so it will have to brutally cut social spending, already heavily slashed by governments of all stripes over the last 30 years; it is cutting every constraint on the excessive power of employers in the workplace and in labor contracts, and is flouting every environmental constraint in the name of the need for new “major projects”; it has declared war on emigrants and immigrants; it is militarizing schools, universities, cities, and the media; in concert with the international fascist or fascist-leaning right, it is spreading a ferociously sexist culture; it is using the “security decree” to attack workers’ pickets, marches, and even forms of nonviolent disobedience; it has an admirable record of workplace deaths and prison suicides — plenty of reasons to attack it head-on and bring it down.
But it certainly won’t fall on the initiative of the center-left parliamentary opposition, which even abstained from the right-wing agenda in favor of the Trump plan, and went so far as to praise War Minister Crosetto. It will fall only and exclusively from the streets, if we manage to sustain this resurgence of struggle and the will to fight, without delegating anything to this opposition of His Majesty and its henchmen.
