Ottantuno anni fa l’Italia veniva liberata dal nazifascismo. La Resistenza antifascista scriveva in quel frangente una pagina importante di una lotta contro il fascismo che il movimento proletario aveva iniziato più di 25 anni prima, e che non sarebbe finita neppure dopo il 25 Aprile del 1945, né è finita oggi.
A pagare il prezzo pesantissimo di quella lunga lotta, in emigrazione, sacrifici, carcere e decine di migliaia di vite umane, furono soprattutto i proletari; ma a incassare i benefici politici di essa sono stati, alla fine, i borghesi, le classi possidenti.
Il motivo di questo paradosso è molto semplice: l’antifascismo borghese (composto in parte da coloro che al momento opportuno si erano tolti la camicia nera per indossare quella democratica) riuscì a intrufolarsi nel movimento di liberazione dal nazi-fascismo, e poi – con l’aiuto delle forze statunitensi e britanniche – a usurparne la rappresentanza. Lo fece in nome della cosiddetta “comunità d’intenti tra le classi”, come se il fascismo non fosse stato una pugnalata al cuore del movimento proletario dato dalla classe dei padroni.
La sinistra istituzionale di allora (PCI e PSI) fu complice di questa manovra di “pacificazione”. Prospettò agli sfruttati, che avevano pagato i costi della tirannide e della guerra fascista e dato il sangue nella Resistenza, un futuro radioso nella democrazia “progressiva” – che non è mai arrivato. La ricostruzione dello Stato come repubblica democratica, infatti, rimise in piedi l’apparato di potere dei capitalisti. Lo testimoniano gli eccidi di operai ad opera della Celere, la repressione sistematica contro gli operai combattivi nella FIAT di Valletta e nelle altre fabbriche, gli assalti polizieschi e mafiosi nel sud Italia contro le lotte bracciantili e per la terra, i licenziamenti di massa, l’intensissimo sfruttamento nelle fabbriche.
Le conquiste sociali fatte dal 1945 in poi non sono state una gentile concessione dei parlamenti nati dalla “Costituzione antifascista”: sono arrivate sempre, solo e a un duro prezzo, dalle lotte di massa, che hanno tratto per molto tempo linfa vitale dal protagonismo proletario nella Resistenza.
Da decenni tali conquiste vengono rimangiate da governi dei più vari colori. E da 4 anni siamo di fronte alla vergogna di ex, o para, o semi fascisti al governo, che fanno del 25 Aprile la festa di “tutti gli italiani”, quelli della Resistenza e quelli di Salò. Accostano i “valori della Resistenza” alle guerre più turpi condotte dall’imperialismo occidentale, di cui l’Italia è stata ed è ogni volta parte integrante.
A sua volta la sinistra parlamentare celebra il 25 aprile in nome dell’antifascismo e della pace. Ma il PD è lo sponsor n. 1 della guerra tra NATO e Russia in Ucraina, che entrambi gli schieramenti combattono per i rispettivi interessi imperialistici. Ed è lo sponsor n. 1 di Zelensky, colui che celebra in Ucraina il fascismo di Bandera. Cinquestelle e AVS si dicono contrari a questa guerra, ma sono entrambi a favore del riarmo europeo – che ha gli stessi obiettivi del nazionalismo guerrafondaio delle destre. E tutti e tre (PD, Cinquestelle e AVS) legittimano lo stato colonialista di Israele, mentre bollano di “terrorismo” la resistenza palestinese. Alla faccia dell’antifascismo e della pace!
L’antifascismo che noi rivendichiamo è invece inseparabile dalla lotta contro il capitalismo di ogni latitudine e dalle sue guerre. I proletari e le proletarie che hanno sacrificato la propria vita contro il nazifascismo di sicuro non l’hanno fatto per vedere il mondo devastato da conflitti e pretese imperialiste, che sono della stessa sostanza di quelle combattute ottantuno anni fa. Di sicuro non l’hanno fatto per vedere l’Italia di nuovo in prima fila in questa dinamica di guerra con la sua potente industria bellica.
Questo 25 Aprile, perciò, e poi il Primo Maggio, il 16 maggio (anniversario della Nakba), il 29 maggio (sciopero del sindacalismo di base contro genocidio, guerre ed economia di guerra) devono essere altrettante giornate di mobilitazione e di lotta per buttare giù con la forza delle piazze il governo Meloni, reazionario, guerrafondaio, di polizia. Per abbattere le spese militari e innalzare i salari e le spese sociali con risorse requisite al 10% più ricco (e parassita) della società. Per condizioni di lavoro che non ci facciano morire. Per farla finita con la precarietà. Per imporre la fine del genocidio a Gaza e la fine dell’aggressione USA-Israele all’Iran e al Libano. Per il ritiro delle truppe italiane all’estero. Per lo scioglimento della NATO (nata per distruggere e assassinare). Per una società libera dal capitale e dalle sue guerre.

Rifiutiamo di farci scagliare contro i lavoratori e le lavoratrici di altri paesi, contro i popoli del Medio Oriente, contro gli immigrati. Lavoriamo per l’unione di lotta degli/delle sfruttati/e di tutto il mondo, in tutto solidali con la loro resistenza all’imperialismo, dalla Palestina al Libano allo Yemen, dall’Iran a Cuba al Venezuela.
Il nostro campo è quello dell’antifascismo conseguente: che è anti-istituzionale, anti-capitalista, anti-sionista, internazionalista. Per una vera opposizione di classe alla dittatura del capitale, qualsiasi forma e “colore” abbia, alle sue devastazioni, alle sue guerre!

Anti-fascism today means fighting against the state of war and police
Eighty-one years ago, Italy was liberated from Nazi-fascism. At that juncture, the anti-fascist Resistance wrote an important chapter in the struggle against fascism that the proletarian movement had begun more than 25 years earlier, a struggle that would not end even after April 25, 1945, nor does it end today.
Those who paid the heaviest price for that long struggle—in emigration, sacrifice, and tens of thousands of human lives—were primarily the proletariat; but those who ultimately reaped the political benefits were the bourgeoisie, the propertied classes.

The reason for this paradox is very simple: bourgeois anti-fascism (composed in part of those who, at the right moment, had shed their black shirts for the democratic ones) managed to infiltrate the movement for liberation from Nazi-fascism and then — with the help of American and British forces — usurped its representation. It did so in the name of the so-called “community of purpose between the classes,” as if fascism had not been a stab to the heart of the proletarian movement delivered by the ruling class.
The institutional left of the time (PCI and PSI) was complicit in this “pacification” maneuver. It offered the exploited, who had paid the price of tyranny and the fascist war and shed their blood in the Resistance, a bright future in “progressive democracy” — which never came. The reconstruction of the state as a democratic republic, in fact, rebuilt the capitalists’ power apparatus. This is evidenced by the massacres of workers by the police, the systematic repression of militant workers at the FIAT factory in Valletta’s times and other factories, the police and mafia attacks in southern Italy against laborers and land struggles, the mass layoffs, and the intense exploitation in the factories.
The social gains made since 1945 were not a courtesy of the parliaments born from the “anti-fascist Constitution”: they have always come, only and at a high price, from mass struggles, which for a long time drew lifeblood from proletarian protagonism within Resistance.
For decades, these gains have been reversed by governments of all stripes. And for four years, we have been faced with the shame of former, para, or semi-fascists in government, who make April 25th the holiday of “all Italians,” those of the Resistance and those of Salò. They equate the “values of the Resistance” with the most shameful wars waged by Western imperialism, of which Italy has been and continues to be an integral part.
For its part, the parliamentary center-left celebrates April 25th in the name of anti-fascism and peace. But the Democratic Party is the number one sponsor of the war between NATO and Russia in Ukraine, which both sides are fighting for their respective imperialist interests. And it is the number one sponsor of Zelensky, the one who celebrates Bandera’s fascism in Ukraine. Five Star Movement and AVS [Green-Left Alliance] say that they are opposed to this war, but they both support European rearmament — which has the same goals as the warmongering nationalism of the right. And all three (PD, Five Star Movement, and AVS) legitimize the colonialist state of Israel, while branding Palestinian resistance as “terrorism.” So much for anti-fascism and peace!
The anti-fascism we advocate is inseparable from the fight against capitalism everywhere and its wars. The proletarians who sacrificed their lives against Nazi-fascism certainly didn’t do so to see the world devastated by conflicts and imperialist demands, which are of the same essence as those they fought eighty-one years ago against. They certainly didn’t do it to see Italy, with its powerful war industry, once again at the forefront of this war dynamic.
This April 25th, therefore, and then May Day, May 16th (anniversary of the Nakba), and May 29th (grassroots union strike against genocide, war, and the war economy) must be days of mobilization and struggle to overthrow the reactionary, warmongering, police-led Meloni government, with the force of the streets. To slash military spending and raise wages and social spending with resources requisitioned from the richest (and most parasitic) 10% of society. For working conditions that don’t kill us. To end precarious employment. To impose an end to the genocide in Gaza and the US-Israeli aggression against Iran and Lebanon. For the withdrawal of Italian troops abroad. For the dissolution of NATO (created to destroy and murder). For a society free from capital and its wars.
We refuse to clash with workers from other countries, against the peoples of the Middle East, and against immigrants. We work for the unity of struggle of the exploited around the world, in full solidarity with their resistance to imperialism, from Palestine to Lebanon to Yemen, from Iran to Cuba.
Our camp is that of consistent anti-fascism: which is anti-institutional, anti-capitalist, anti-Zionist, internationalist. For a true class opposition to the dictatorship of capital, whatever its form and “color,” to its devastation, to its wars!
